Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award

Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award

Iain Burnett – The Highland Chocolatier - and his team won the prize of Food Service Product of the Year in the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2009. The panel of chefs and food industry judges were unanimous in singling out the extraordinary flavours and texture of Iain’s Velvet Truffles, created by the River Tay in the tiny village of Grandtully.

The award was given for “serving up the very best in Scottish food… pushing the boundaries, challenging expectations and delivering to a demanding marketplace.”

Now in their eighth year, the awards are organised and co-sponsored by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and Scotland Food & Drink.

Iain and his two assistant chocolatiers, Calum Burnett and Sandra Batty, together with business development manager Julie Collier heard the news at the ceremony last night in Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow, attended by over 300 people from the Scottish food and drinks industry. They were all served the Velvet Truffle with its special truffle forks.

“We are absolutely thrilled,” Iain said afterwards. “This is the culmination of years of work on the recipes, a high level of craftsmanship, and dedication by everyone who works with us in Highland Perthshire. Being recognised by the Scottish food industry in this manner is a great honour.”
